vmax-mike, thanks for the info. i've compared the various systems over the past several months and have already made up my mind on the Marks. I'm going with 4-2 SS, 'cause I prefer the "balanced" look. I've just been on the fence with the various options--can length, outlet size, etc.

i agree with you that the UFO looks awesome, but my priority is the quality of the exhaust tone over the actual dB level or even looks, and although the UFO sounds wicked loud and looks nice, I just don't like the crackling sound and it just seems overpriced for what it is..at least from what I can tell from the youtube vids. also like you've pointed out, i want to keep my center stand.

I kind of agree there....one of my reasons for going Marks was that I could keep the center stand. The true boy-racers out there will hee-haw that, but I don't really care. I think it's useful when parking on softer ground, and I use it whenever the bike sits for more than a day or two to take the load off the tires and suspension. Like ninjaneer I'm just kicking around the options now, though the "popular" 2.25 sounds about right. I don't need Goldwing-silent mode, but don't want that effin loud crackle either. If stock is "quiet", 2.75 is "loud", I'd want something roughly in the middle.

Garrett, the blacked out cans look great on your bike, fits really well, though I'm not sure they'd look as good on my bike that has silver tins and the factory metal-gray swingarm and shocks. Think I'll go SS as well. Your cans look to be the same length as my holeshot slip-ons, which I guess wouldn't be too surprising.

I'll probably give him a call before too long and chat him up about some options and pricing. How long does it take to get the exhaust from the time you order it? I assume they're all made-to-order.

Yes, made to order. Mine took about 3 weeks including shipping. Contacting him by phone is hit or miss. Once you get him, he answers all your questions though. Don't bother with email.

I have the black ones with 12"cans and 2.25" outlets/ turn downs.I like the fact that the black blends in nice with the frame and engine. Also freshened up my front cylinder pipes a while back with some high temp exhaust flat black and they turned out nice. Just used some scotch brite to rough them up a little before spraying them. Here are a couple of pics. Mike

I installed a set of Marks 2&3/4 pipes on another members bike, and I gotta say it was LOUD! I couldn't even hear my bike next to his!

I can attest to the loudness of 2.75" for sure.... someone commented that HP is made with more back pressure. this is true. but the sound i was going for is a big win in my books. its the conversation starter in any parking lot i pull into. Ppl come over and start talking about there old cammed up what ever, and say my bike sounds awesome. Different strokes for different folks.

The best part is i can go and buy different muffler cores from mark and change the loud if i wanted. thats a great thing about these mufflers. rebuildable...

good luck on your hunt!!!

peace,
Evan...

200th post!!!!

Vmike, I like the "stubby" 12" cans with the turndown tips. Lets you see more of the rear wheel. The black headers do match well with the frame and motor, though my motor isn't nearly as clean as yours...my heads are a light gray at best.

Thinking a 12x2.25" can in all SS....

Thanks for everyone's input here.

Nice pipes......very very clean looking bike. Would you happen to have the Yammie paint code for the red? I'm thinking of painting mine red this winter. Thanks.........Rick

Here are some pictures of mine when I received them from Mark in 2009, 4 into 2 SS, w/ 12" cans, 2 1/4" openings with no turn downs:

The black ceramic pipes with silver cans is the classiest imo but the ceramic coating doesn't hold up very well. I would go S/S if I were to do it again.

Both '99 & Sallymax had 14" cans with 2" openings and would never be called 'goldwing quiet'! :biglaugh:

Dan-o , Does he do the ceramic coating in-house or sub it out ?

I had Jet Hot Coatings do mine in black about 3 years ago through Sean. Still look great. No flaking so far.

That's how I went Dan-o .I had the stainless pipes ceramic coated black when new, $200 at Powder Pro, New Bedford,Ma (working then) and polished the cans mirror like.So far the black ceramic is holding up. Been through some bad weather too. I herd the Eastman spray kit holds up well too. Sooner or later it'll have to be redone i'm sure.I went 2" outlets straight w/ 14" cans, but want to go bigger turn down openings. Pics in my album I believe.Or can post.

I still cant make up my mind on what exhaust to go with. I saved up the money and i just cant pull the trigger.

To me, the Marks gets the nod because it allows you to not only keep the centerstand tabs, but actually keep the stand on the bike. For some people that isn't important, I'd rather keep it.

It's also several hundred cheaper than the Holeshot system, and Marks has a reputation for excellent service.

I'm sure any number of systems (kerker, jardine, holeshot, ufo, ect) can and will make good power, but the lower price, good looks, good sound, and many "happy customers" seal the deal on the Marks for me.

UFO ehhaust Is shipped to me for $850 for dual slash cuts and you keep the center stand on as well. But UFO only has SS muffler's. The head pipe is ceramic inside and out with a thicker steel tube than most ceramic pipes. And UFO has a vary clean look With a vary mean sound of its own. On the other hand Marks is all SS. It has an H-pipe that gives it a vary cool tuned sound of its own and you get to keep the center stand. Marks duels cost $913 and im not sure if thats shipped to me. Well i gess i need to make two calls and see who's the best sales man. AS far as i can tell the two pipe's are great.

I saw a used Holeshot , dual pipe system for sale on e-bay last night. Current bid was $ 350. They had a video / audio of the bike running before dismantling for parts sale. I could look it up if you can't find it.

It would need to be a vary clean system. I dont think i will get a clean system for $$400. The hole shot dont stand out to me. all though i have read great things about hole shot.
