Even following the aforementioned instructions you may still find the tank is hard to remove, mine was but it did come out. The worst part was getting it back in without gouging the fresh paint...yes I know it wont be seen but I'm like that. :confused2:

Just bought my 85 today and the bike is hesitating in the upper rpms.

The previous owner insisted the carbs were serviced and balanced 1 year ago.

How about the valves...the bike has 30K and I am unsure if the valves have ever been dealt with.

valves need adjusted about evry 25k. if you're serious about the dead mice in the airbox, doesn't sound like the seller did shit to it in quite awhile. pull the slides & check the rubber diaphragms for holes/cracks.

I have a few different options with the rust in the tank situation.

1. Take it to radiators express and have them sandblast and coat the inside (about 80 bucks)

2. Buy a new tank (about 160 bucks)

3. You guys tell me what to do...I assume some form of acid would get all the rust out.

Suggestions please....

Thanks,
Abe

If you're ok with dropping 160 on a new tank, that's the way I would go. You can then forget about it altogether.

I don't think they're currently being made and available, but in Germany there's a company that makes larger tanks (5+gal) for better fuel range, and if I remember right they were a bit more $$ but they're not metal, so no more rust worries ever again.

At this point I might just drop the 160...I got so many parts on the floor for this bike right now I hope I can get her back together again!

I know just what you mean. I often find it helpful to write down the order in which I took things off while it's fresh in my mind. Especially useful if there's gonna be time waiting 4 parts between removal and reassembly.
Pictures also help a lot when it comes to what goes where :ummm::biglaugh:
