Picked up a new set of skins for the V-65, plan on saving the $50 mount and balance cost by doing it myself, going the Dynabead route because of what I've read on here......................Tom.
I think I'm going the same route Tom when I get my ME880 for the rear, the savings of the mounting cost should pay for the Dyna beads, trash bin, and spoons. I need to live closer to Danny's ultimate workshop!! :eusa_dance:
Kyle mentioned that he can get another brand of tire balancing beads for $25/Lb, which should be good for 4 tire changes.

:surprise::ummm::confused2:

i see how that works, you plant a seed in others to p/c black and then flip to the other side...... thanks again MM helper, thanks.....oh ya just sent more parts out to get .......black P/C :punk::punk:

haha nah nothing that is black will be changing to chrome, just thinking of changing what is brushed to chrome eventually. we'll see..

altho don't be fooled i've been making weekly trips to the powdercoater.

Who are you and what have you done with Garret!!!?!!!

Haha!! :rofl_200::rofl_200::rofl_200:

Sounds good to me!! I could use the company too....nothing out here but leaves & trees....and right now, a shitload of snow!! :th_scared:

ya know what i'd love? black chrome, but morley let me know its not as durable.

what might work tho is flat black with chrome sticker inserts.

There is a local powdercoater here that does a coating they call black chrome. They showed me a couple pics. Looked really good. They do all kinds of specialty powder including woodgrain. I would have liked to see the black chrome powder first hand though. They did have some of the woodgrain stuff to show off, it looked pretty good!

think black chrome will look kick ass, id love to do my scoops also, great idea garrett, cant wait to see it if it pans out

i won't do the black chrome morley offers due to its longevity, thats a high traffic area to put something that isn't as durable.

Unfortunately, storage room is scarce enough to be non-existent in the BRC Shop, but a yellow blazer with trailer in tow could overcome that issue very easily!! :rofl_200:

Now....that pesky little distance problem.......:confused2:

i hear ya man.

max would be tough to tow right now...

no clutch
no oil pan
no exhaust
no gear cover
no brake lever
no shift lever
no front wheel

Look on the bright side Garrett....it'd be a lot lighter to load!! :rofl_200:

haha i would choose not to do so w/out wheels!

So you gonna go for the woodgrain? :rofl_200:

Check out the attached PDF. I'm thinking the large picture is black chrome powder. Either that or just really shiny black. Can't remember ATM.

that pic is REALLY tough to tell if its the flash or not.

Picked up a new set of skins for the V-65, plan on saving the $50 mount and balance cost by doing it myself, going the Dynabead route because of what I've read on here......................Tom.

Everything I've heard about Dynabeads says they don't work. Buddy tried them on a dealer's balancing machine. Mounted the tire with no weights, gave it a whirl, it specified a couple grams in one spot. Added the dynabeads, spun it again, exact same reading. On their website they even admit this, but somehow claim the wheel is balanced even if the machine says it isn't. You'd also have to somehow be extra sure no tire lube gets in the tread, otherwise they'd all just clump up and really screw things up.

If you think about it, not really too difficult to see why it won't work. Wheel picks up speed, all the little beads are flung against the outer wall and held there by centrifugal force. Unless there's big "dents" on the inside wall for some reason, they're going to just add weight evenly all over the tire and balance nothing. You'll have a slightly heavier, unbalanced wheel. They work on the assumption there's a physical deformity that's precisely the right size and in the right spot so as to adequately balance the tire. Somehow I just don't believe that.

It's another $20 or so, just get it done right. Stability and safety aren't something I'd want to skimp on and replace with some gimmick.

Unsurprisingly, HD forums seem to love them, and everything from Vespa to Goldwing riders don't.

I've been wrestling with this for a long time....even used the beads. But centrifugal force being what it is I can't for the life of me see how the beads can work....it just doesn't make sense!

Anyhow, I got a benchtop static balancer for Christmas and it works very well, handful of little 1/4 oz. weights and I got a perfectly balanced wheel....well, maybe not perfect, but damn close!

I took a pic of that pie....I get hungry everytime I see it!! Mmmmm! :rofl_200:

I did the crimp fix and sync'd '99 today...picked up 4/10 ths of a volt in the charging circuit. Very pleased with this! :clapping:

Have a good night guys, I'm dead and have to go work for another 3 hours...

Very cool tool!! Can you post a pic? :punk:

picked up TONS of parts!! whoo hoo. also the guy had '09 scoops on his gen I, i didn't realize they were bolt ons!

They aren't by any means. Sounds like he had mega scoops on it. Looks just like the gen 2 and is where Yamaha got the design idea.

Got a bike traded in this last weekend. Not sure if I am going to part it out, sell it as is, or what yet.
