so whats the difference between 'shown' voltage and actual 'battery' voltage?

I haven't checked yet. been studying. I'll run out there a little later on tonight.
I do, however, remember seeing what looked like a pot on the back of the meter.
I'm thinking that's for fine tuning. so I'll grab my meter and have at it.

Replaced the low fuel sending unit and now have a working low fuel light. Also found the stater connecter melted plus about 3 inches of one stater wire with the insulation burned off so I soldered the stater wires ( 14.3 volts at hot idle and no change at 3000 rpm ). Changed out Final drive pumpkin for a venture pumpkin.

Almost ready to put my 3" stretch all together: new full size rear rotor with a 190/55-17, painted pumpkin, swingarm on.:eusa_dance:

let me know how it is getting the caliper on and off. i was looking at doing this too but was afraid i'd have to dismantle the caliper to get the rear rim off. pain enough to have to take the final drive off.

I rode to work today, still ironing out a few little bugs.

Got home and I still had coolant stains on the RHS. This is the 2nd new radiator cap in a week which is leaking through the top of the cap.

Grrrrr.

Just had to complain.

I think you may be right and I did think of that. I've got to play with it a bit before final assembly. I'll let you know how I make out.

i don't think wheel offset would matter here but it might. i have a kosman, is that a madmax wheel?

If it's blowing through the cap you may have another problem that's creating too much pressure there.

Could the vent for the coolant recovery tank be plugged up? Could the line between the tank and the pressure cap be crimped or blocked?

Looks great Dale! I can't wait to test mine out with new wheels and radials. It would be nice to test them on that road we took back from Thunder last year!

Cleaned up the radial busa calipers, polished the pistons, pins, spring, and mounting bolts. Installed new pads. Installed calipers. Installed front brake lines.

Mulling over the best way to run the lines. I can go a couple different ways. I have it setup as cleanly as possible right now but, I would need to come up with some kind of small clamp to attach it to the triple. Not sure how thrilled I am at the idea of drilling and tapping my new triple.

Waiting on the wheels to come back from PC. And the diff from chrome. Need to order a bunch of bearings, seals, gaskets, and some tires and get moving with this thing already!

Got everything double checked and tweaked. The LED voltmeter now reads what my handheld meter reads. Turns out there was a pot on the back of the gauge for adjusting. now I'm over 13 at idle and up to 14.1v at a fast rpm.

Kind of Vmax related. I cut out a Les Paul shape body and routed it for pickups and hardware, then painted it black, with a few coats of clear to follow. I then took the nice shiny chrome pickups, and other hardware and hit it with the red anodizing paint I used on my Vmax. The neck is assembled and now I'm thinking on how to shape the head.

When everything dries, I'll start assembly. I'm thinking probably Thursday. I still have one of the "Vmax" emblems left, so I'll be putting that on it. Then BAM! a black and red, matching Vmax guitar. :git:

Brian, I just wonder how the handling will be having a 3" stretch. Those roads were AWESOME!
How big of a rear are you going to use??

If I were to comment on this like the title say id be commenting almost ever day. :) I am a VERY proud new owner of an 85vmax since february. I drove in a snow storm I wanted this bike so bad it took six hours instead of 4 to get to the destination 12 hrs round trip! The said thing was that the bike was in 85 condition. :( :( but I wanted it still! It all started with having to reline the gas tank with POR 15 and wanting to touch up the cylinders with paint and now here I am. Im in FULL restoration mode and very excited about my process. I think I might post all the before and after pics I have.. I wish I would've took better ones.. but so far since february. I've......
-repainted the gas tank
-line the gas tank with POR 15
-painted the engine with eastwoods ceramic engine enameling
-I have off sissy bar, tank side covers, fake intakes, front fork braces, carbs slide tops, and all the handle bar/speedo mounting and its all now polished looking amazing except side covers and fake intakes..
-also painted the jerked headers were rusting and chrome was chipping

to day has gotten me excited even though im ready to ride it but I spent some money today. :)
-bought 05 forks and triple tree with progressive springs installed also a set of calipers from caption kyle
-a hot rod style license plat curved mount for the rear tire bolt
-a set of led license plate bolts to keep the cops off my ass
- the CBR smoked integrated tail light for the mod
-a clear led brake light to replace the reflector
- im going to be painting the bike black this week, even tho black is the hardest color we got a paint booth at work and a guy there used to paint cars. He said he will do it for me. :)
- Blue LED engine lights

The things to come in the future once I sell my enduro and my 94yz 125 that never got put back together
-radiator grill with matching fake intake grill chrome inserts
-drag bars
-case savers maybe with high way pegs
-bug hairs windshield
-fork tool bag for the front
-radial front tire
- new seat its looking like maxgasser but I really like the flames on the idol seat

With that all said and done I can not wait to send the previous owner pictures of the restored vmax. Have a good night. :D

"Blue LED engine lights"

Be careful of using those while underway. You will probably get a citation from the local PD. Only the PD or FD can use blue, as you probably know.

NYS Vehicle Code, Vehicle and Traffic, Title 3, Article 9, 381.3:

"Except as hereinafter provided, only a white or yellow light shall
be displayed upon a motorcycle so as to be visible from a point directly
in front of the vehicle. Any color light, except blue, may be displayed..."

I am I fireman. :) plus it has to be pulsing of flashing to gave it constant is ok as per local PD I ain't gonna drive with them on anyways. Couldn't pass it up for 45 bucks from a local parts guy gave them to me at his cost
