Replaced the Fork springs with Racetech 1.0's a month ago.:thumbs up:
Got both tires replaced with Metzler ME 880's two weeks ago.:thumbs up:
Next I think I am going to try and polish the Carb Scoops to give them the polished aluminum look like in this link http://www.geocities.com/am20924/VMaxPolish.html?200728 Does anyone have any better suggestions on how to get this done? I check at the local shop on all the stuff to do this and he wanted $140 port all the Rouge and polishing compounds and buffing wheels.:hmmm:

Thinking perhaps a new seat too but I can't find any other than Corbin.... If anyone has any advice on this let me know too please. Corbin is a little pricey for my taste.:th_biggun:

It didn't cost me anywhere close to 140 to get all the stuff I needed. I did mine last year for around 30 - 40 bucks. It takes a hell of allot of work to do this. Just stipping them down takes allot all on it's own. The buffing wheels can be expensive depending where you buy them. The jewlers rouge is a only few bucks though. What will you be using to do the polishing ? A drill will work but watch out you don't slip with it. Many times I had to buff out deep scratches I put in them with the chuck on the drill. It really pisses you off when that **** happens, but you have to push quite hard to make any progress - trust me !

I was happy with the results however I think I can make them better if I'm willing to put in some more time on them.

If some one could build a good jig to hold them and use a good hand polisher ( like his ) it would make the job so much ez'r for sure. I used the combo between a hand drill and a bench grinder with buffing wheels on it. ( I went too soft ) I should have used a more aggessive wheel. I tried to clear coat them for protection- which was a desaster.....I ended up stippping that all off and now all I use is a really good car wax on them to keep them looking good - every few days. There was a guy on the forum - who did clear coat and was really happy how they looked when he was done. However, for me the clear coat took away from the mirror look I was looking for. I don't ride in the rain if I can help it but if they do get wet I dry them as soon as I get the bike home. I do the whole bike anyways, but I was just making a point.

It's rather a big job and can be rather time consuming so be prepared. If I had the money - I'd get them chromed. No ********* and they will look awesome for a really long time - if you take care of them.

Hi Robbarrie. I think the guy you refer to was me. I did clear coat them and my swingarm eventually but the scoops are now chromed. It's too much work keeping the polish up to them.

Best clear coat finish is 2pak enamel. This is what they use on alloy rims. Get your spray shop to spray and bake them.

240 rear, custom swing arm and wheel

Custom headlight, mirrors and bars

ZRX shocks

New design tail section and seat (not sure what yet)

Custom design exhaust ...4 exit pipes under the bike....
 
Well, today I had a bracket made for my integrated taillight/turn signals. Here are a few pictures with it installed on the fender. You have to cut the old license plate bracket similar to the other led cateye taillights that are out there. I had them laser cut from stainless steel and with a little polishing, they shine right up! If anyone is interested in the details let me know and I can let them know where I got the taillight/turn signals, and I can have a bracket made up for a VERY reasonable price. I am also showing a smaller bracket cut from steel that will hold a smaller led cateye taillight... like the clear ones you see on eBay for $30.... this would be a cheaper mod than spending $70 or $80 on it.

I should point out that the mounted bracket is not polished, but the flat / unbent one on the ground has about 5 minutes of quick polishing done to it.

Update on winter mods; just bought off ebay a scorpion muffler for my 4-2-1 kerker header - my original kerker one is cracked at the clamp end - was done by the baffle from inside out (this is after 8 years of use) I am also in the process of fitting a softail aftermarket taillight bracket with catseye taillight and relocating mini signal lights to it (pics coming)

Next rear 18" wheel and radials!

RJ RJ RJ do u have any pics of your Mods? Id like to see the swingarm and 240 combo as well as the R1 front end.
 
Well Being winter is almost over and I've done enough, I don't want any down time.

The winter of '08 I'm going to change the tail section (didn't get done) , get my Gixxer rim covverted and mounted (nope, had to spend money elsewhere), then install my NOS from the other bike that was done :) ).

Then I hate to say, I'm done.

Unless the voices in my head get physical and I go with a USD front end and them killer brakes Chris has.

I have ZERO planned. I'm hoping to RIDE THE DAMN THING next year though!
 
Well, I'm doing a few...where do I start....
Transmission: Under cut gears, RS 5th gear, repair shift drum/ fork/ update segment, clutch rebuild.
Carbs: Install extra carbs with Morley jet kit and SS crankcase breather tuning.
Forks: install intiminators.
Brakes: Install hayabusa calipers w/ HH pads.
Powdercoating/ Painting: Crankcase covers, grab bar, footpeg brackets, swingarm, pumpkin, touchup frame.
Misc: Install Delrin motor mounts/ SS throttle & speedometer cable.

I already have most of the parts as I have been buying them over the late summer and fall. These projects should keep me busy for a good while this winter, I hope nothing else strikes my fancy!
 
Installing:

  • Shindy steering damper
  • Air shifter
  • The dual 6" oval headlights below
  • red LED accent lights for engine and under bellypan
  • Installing N2O purge that is lit up red
  • take apart body and go through the bolts on the bike to make sure all are tight.
  • New rear tire
So far, I have the bolts done (3 needed tightening), New tire ordered, Purge valve rebuilt and waiting to get put on, over 300 red LED's and a remote switch is on the work bench, along with the body panels.

After my instument cowel and headlight assembly sells on eBay, I'll order the new dual heallight assembly.

January the shimmy shock and airshifter gets ordered.

looks like a headlight install, longer ss front line, custom billet grips (if i can find the guy that used to do them), hose kit in red, finish the oil cooler mod, save for the aluminum radiator side covers and new wheels. new side mount plate holder, and i'm sure i'll come across something else i "need" before the spring arrives lol.

just the bare essentials : cop up grade, r/r up grade,and prolly a UEGO A/f meter.I belive the uego is compatible with my KMS ECU and will actually display two funtions of my ecu on the same display as the a/f .
Probably going to sell off alot of spare parts,Im starting a 2nd generation fund,my goal is to have a 2nd gen by summer of 11 bought and paid for.:biglaugh:

install progressive springs

Pull the Supertrapps and Jet Coat them silver/chrome
Make my own solid steel handle bar and powdercoat black
Replace the stock pegs
 
Here goes;

Change front wheel to an 85 5 spoke one - once I find one for cheap
Belly pan, aluminum/ss side covers for radiator (black), change front fender, braced swingarm, change footpegs
Powdercoat a bunch of stuff

That's about it for this year - will be busy with frame up rebuild on wife's Radian

Good news, new workshop is just finished being built :eusa_dance: so will have room to work on the bikes :punk:

After talking with some friends of mine, they brought up a good point. Why bother with the air shifter, when I only hit the dragstrip a couple of times every other year. I'm not competing anymore, so its a N-O on the air shifter.

Instead I'm going to go with exactrep and get a new tail section with a pillion pad. I think that would go well with the dual front headlights and the shindy shimmy shock will add a nice little bit of functional bling to the bike.
