Hey everybody, I usually just float around the site and gather info to help with my bike repairs. This site has been a life saver to say the least. Anyway here is what I have done to my bike since I bought her in the fall of 2012.
I was told 2nd gear was gone and that the forks leaked. Since I've opened up the motor, I have replaced 2nd / 5th gear , shift forks, shift cam/ segment. Replaced piston rings and rods, cleaned and reseated valves, fab. strap to hold oil tube ( O-ring fix ), clutch cover scratched up from bike going over at some point, so I fabricated a clear clutch cover. Since the motor was all in pieces, I sanded down and repainted every part.

Now I'm working on the frame and suspension at the moment. Cash is always tight, but I'm glad to work in a shop that has a lot of the tools I need. :biglaugh:

Here are some pics. More to come as I get her back together.:clapping:

WOW! Nice work. You are way deeper than I got with my latest rebuild. I'm fortunate like you to have access to tools and equipment that make it all possible. You definitely got mechanical skills if you tore your motor all apart and back together but that's the only way to do things right. Keep up the great rebuild. Don't be a stranger and post up anytime.
Thanks for the great pics!

They can be fun projects when you want to do one. They suck when you were forced to do one. Looks good so far.

I love threads like this.
Great job so far! Did you going to undercut the transmission too ?

I would have loved to undercut the gears, but like I said cash is really tight. I'm keeping the old gears around. Maybe someday I can have them cut and reuse em. Opening the motor was a lot of work, but fun as well.

Here are some more pics of the rebuild I found on the comp. I'm gonna have to move my a$% now. This posting thing is addicting! :rofl_200:

Now that the frame and suspension are all tore down, I can move on to welding some bracing onto the swing arm. ( I might have to go shopping for some new rear shocks. The left one is oil soaked BAD. )

So is your home in Canada or Ireland?

A good job on the tear-down. I am planning to do the same thing to mine once I get all the mods done, as-far as I wanna take them, & misc. small repairs that are left. I already had the engine open, and I did do the complete undercut tranny. It shifts s-much better! Much-more fun to ride. I also had the entire big end ass'y. disassembled & measured for clearances & had the valves adjusted, then I reinstalled the engine (I pulled it too) to save some significant bucks. The Stage 7 carbs sure seemed to wake-up the engine, it took a bit of jetting work to make it better (I left VBoost intact) but now it just feels right!:punk:

I am waiting to get another ride squared-away so I can have a 'Max to ride while the other is down.

Today is the Ft. Lauderdale Toys for Tots Run, to Markham Park. I am waiting to go after they re-open the road, they shut-down I-95 & I-595 for 4 hours to get the bikes out to the park. It starts in Hallandale Beach at the Mardi Gras Casino. It's always a good place to go for seeing strange people and expensive bikes. Walking around in the parking lot, you see a lot of vintage Japanese iron, and my VMax, @ 21 yr.o., will be one of them!:clapping:

This pic is from about a year-ago, and was after I got the bike back on the road after years of non-use. It has a lot of cosmetic issues still to-do, hence, the plans for the strip-down to the chassis for finishes refurbishments. I've powdercoated a lot of the silver stuff, and want to do more. I'd like to give some stuff to Patmax as he takes his time to do a good job, and I'd like to wear some of his stuff on my ride. I gotta thank Kyle, as I have bought parts from him, and both Kyle and Sean have patiently answered questions from me, which has helped greatly in getting things to this point.

Seeing your ride all-apart is encouraging me to undertake it, too. Good going, and as Pat said, "keep those pics comin!"

Nice ride, and my home is Ontario , Canada.

Great job so far - I always love to see a bike getting reworked. Keep us up to date on your progress.

You're doing a nice job man. I would love to find another one dirt cheap just to do a build. Slammed, stretched, 1570 on spray, fat tire....all that good stuff. Good luck with you're project !

Wow nice work. I don't like the Yamaha logo on the stock engine cover so the window there looks really good to me.

Holy Smoke, You're really in to this one. Amazing Work in progress....

Here is some pics to update what I've done to the MAX. I now have it running, but have noticed a coolant leak from the drain plug, and my carbs are leaking. Looks like they are loading up the cyl's and thus gas leaks from the top of the carb between the air box boots. At least I know she will start, but I'm gonna pull the carbs and take em apart check float level etc....

The gas got on the paint alittle and damaged a small section as well!:bang head:

Also my vboost didn't cycle when I turned the key on? I went over the whole harness when I had it off the bike. I'm thinking controller now, since it looks like someone has pried there way inside it already. ?????

Carbs leaking sounds like float level to me, & possibly float needle/seat issue. Did they leak before the build? Needles & seats are relatively cheap, so that should not require too-much $. The how-to section has a good carb thread.
