where to begin, took off the middle cover to get to the slave cylinder to do a rebuild, took off the front cover as it seems to have a leak since i got the bike and well make the slave rebuild easier. moved on to taking off the clutch res cover to pull out fluid and well i know it was a long shot, both screws stripped.

so with no extractor around went on to take the carbs off to check/chg jets and look at needle postion. so pulled out 160, put in 150 mikuni's but guess if they are Dj160 same thing but i can see a diff in the orfice, 150 look smaller? anyways looks like floats are a little too high so will get to those later on.
checked the needles, all got stg 7 and set at third from top(6 in totall) and not sure if this is how it suppose to go but plastic piece, e-clip, small washer, larger washer spring then large screw? is that sound right, whats the point of the small washer after e-clip? is that to hold the larger washer that helps hold the little spring?

went to check a/f screws and two are good set the same, other two wont budge so going to soak them tonight in wd40 and try again tomorrow.

so not sure what i did to the bike but take a hole lot of things apart, scattered them around the garage and now thinking why did i even bother?

Not right Ro, as you pointed out, the small washer (the spacer) isn't picking up the needle if it's after the e-clip....it goes between the plastic peice and the e-clip. See this diagram: http://home.comcast.net/~onlyone12/carbs1.htm

I'm also curious which carbs had the A/F screws seized up....the right side I bet. After you get them free and adjusted put a couple drops of oil in and plug the holes so water won't get in them.

****** to hear man. looks like danny answered your needle question, anything else? it sucks spending 8 hours sometime to get NOTHING done. i hear ya

for the res covers, i stripped out my screws too. my extractors SUCKED and couldn't get it. i would personally get a file or a dremel, cut a slot and hit it with a flat screwdriver and a hammer at an angle. thats what did it for me. get some allen heads!

Those reservoir screws most definitely should be allen head from the factory as they're exposed to all sorts of ****....rain/wash water, brake fluid and the dis-similar metals thing also!! Rough environment for a screw!

It's a good idea to take a single edged razor blade and 'draw' it across the top edge of the reservoir flange, corrosion builds up there, pushing the cover up slightly, allowing fluid to creep out. Angle the razor slightly so the scrapped material falls to the outside and not in the reservoir.

I got to ride up and down the driveway yesterday a bunch of times checking out the new steering head bearings....while not a conclusive test, I can say there's no wobble up to 15 mph!! :biglaugh:

It felt good and once warmed up, the bike ran great! Spun those Shinko's easily on damp blacktop (with just a touch of mossy growth on top) :punk:

Thanks Dan and Garrett. since it's on the third clip might move them to two and put in that washer. PO must have tuned it that way and left the washer there for safe keeping, i dont know. Your right dan both on the right side, was looking thru some post yesterday and seems to be the trouble side? whats that all about? splash off rotating tire with the way the earth spins and turning right all the time, if we were below the equator on left hand roads does this happin to the left side :ummm:

as i was drilling the top of the screw heads off i could see it move and tighten up, crazy anyways went and bought screw extractor and will try it today if not for sure will just slot it and turn it out. I already have the new screws but maybe allen heads would be better if i can find them today. I know for sure if i had my phillips bit with teeth on it from snap on it would have come out. Use them on aircraft and huge difference in not wrecking the screw head.

lol, No, it'll be the right side below the equator too Ro!!:biglaugh: It's because the bike lays to the left on the kickstand, wash water, rain water, etc. will run in the A/F screws holes on the right side and drain from the ones on left side.

That won't happen if the oem brass plugs aren't removed (but we can't allow them to stay, right? :biglaugh:) Be sure to keep the holes plugged.

ya guess that makes more sense.

FWIW, I made a trip to Lowe's and bought some plastic plugs (for about $0.40 ea) and plugged the holes up. Also sprayed some PB Blaster in there before sealing the deal. As often as I wash this thing, I hope it keep the corrosion boogeyman away. :ummm:

That'll work Tom!

I used tiny corks from Ace Hdwr. and a small squirt of motor oil. Worked great till the motor oil saturated the corks, which then pulled in half leaving the small end down in the hole!! :bang head:

So, uh....don't use corks!! :th_bfxbfxvfxv:

Danny is so practical that when Heliose was looking for some more hints she had to ask Danny! :eusa_dance:

got slave cylinder rebuilt installed and clutch system bled. set all the float heights and going to clean up the covers tomorrow and reinstall them, dan wasn't kidding when he said the gaskets are stuck on there pretty good, bit of a understatement man.

Got the new front fender prepped for paint. Put out the new plug wires and fuel filter for swap tomorrow.

Going to go buy a new floor jack (I suppose my nephew dosn't know what happend to it like my torque wrench and some of my air tools either).

Pulled belly pan off, going to attach 80 LED's to the underside.

I read ahead on my homework so I have a nothin' but Reaper weekend

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I wrapped my lid today too. :clapping:

Sweeeeeet!! :thumbs up:

Finished up a few things in the headlight area. labled and boxed up a few parts to go out in the mail tomorrow. Flipped through the new Vboost, great tech articles this month :punk:

Sears was having a pre-superbowl sale. I picked up this lift for around $90.

Nice lift KJ!! :clapping:

I have a lift very similar, but not with the long handle, which I would give to anyone who will drive over and pick it up.

Nothing wrong with it, just don't use it any more.....it works fine.

PM me if you'd like it.
